GREENBORO, N.C. – UNCG's Aja Boyd hit a layup with two seconds to go to give the Spartans women's basketball team a 55-54 Southern Conference win over Samford Thursday evening at Fleming Gymnasium.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 5-12 overall and 0-2 in Southern Conference play. UNCG improves to 7-11 overall and 1-2 in league contests.

• Samford was led in the game by Natalie Armstrong with 15 points and five rebounds.
• Charity Brown had nine points and six assists, while Shauntai Battle also had nine points.
• Ta'Naisha Hill had eight points, while Paige Serup followed with seven points.
• For UNCG, Boyd led the way with 16 points.
• Nadine Soliman added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Spartans.

 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• The score was tight throughout the first quarter, with neither team able to grab more than a four-point lead.
• Samford took an 11-7 lead with 1:53 to go in the quarter after a three-pointer by Brown.
• The Bulldogs held a 12-11 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
• With Samford leading, 14-12, UNCG went on a 5-0 run to take a 17-14 lead with 6:57 to go in the second quarter.
• Samford came back to score the next six points to take a 20-17 lead with 3:34 left in the second period following a layup by Brown.

• In the third quarter, Samford pushed its lead out to 11 points at 45-34 with 2:05 to go in the period after a layup by Armstrong.
• UNCG fought back to cut the lead to 45-39 at the end of the third quarter.
• In the fourth quarter, UNCG knotted the game up at 53-53 with 16 seconds to go on a layup by Soliman.
• After Brown made 1-of-2 free throw attempts to give Samford a 54-53 lead with 10 seconds left, UNCG's Boyd hit a layup with two seconds to go to give the Spartans the 55-54 win.
