Women's Hoops Takes 79-58 Win over ETSU Thursday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford women's basketball team earned a 79-58 Southern Conference win over the ETSU Bucs Thursday evening in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 7-12 overall and 2-2 in Southern Conference play. ETSU falls to 4-16 overall and 2-2 in league play.


 
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Samford was led in the game by Ta'Naisha Hill with 21 points, tying her career high.
  • Natalie Armstrong scored 15 points.
  • Paige Serup followed with 11 points.
  • Shuantai Battle had 10 points and five assists.
  • As a team, Samford shot 56.4 percent from the floor, and committed a season-low six turnovers.
  • For ETSU, Erica-Haynes Overton led the way with 18 points.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • After ETSU jumped out to a 6-3 lead, Samford answered with a 5-0 run to take an 8-6 lead with 7:44 to go in the first quarter after a layup by Armstrong
  • With Samford leading, 15-13, the Bulldogs closed the quarter with a 9-0 run to claim a 24-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.
  • Samford pushed its lead to 15 points at 28-13 with 8:05 left in the second quarter after a basket by Olivia Crozier.
  • ETSU fought back to cut the lead to 10 points at 37-27, but a late three-pointer by Katie Allen gave Samford a 40-27 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
  • Samford pushed its lead to 18 points at 45-27 with 8:59 left in the third quarter after a three-point play by Armstrong.
  •  Samford led by as many as 25 points in the third quarter at 64-39, and the Bulldogs took a 64-41 lead at the end of the third quarter.
  • The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 29 points at 75-46 with 6:24 to go after a three-pointer by Hill.
  • ETSU fought back to cut the lead to 17 points, but could get no closer, as Samford came away with the 79-58 victory.
