Men's Hoops Falls At Western Carolina, 76-69

CULLOWHEE, N.C. –
The Samford men's basketball team dropped a tough Southern Conference game at Western Carolina, 76-69 Saturday afternoon at the Ramsay Center.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 11-6 overall and 1-3 in Southern Conference play. Western Carolina improves to 4-13 overall and 1-3 in league contests.

  • Myron Gordon led Samford with 21 points.
  • Robert Allen tallied 16 points for the Bulldogs.
  • Josh Sharkey added 10 points and five assists.
  • Onno Steger led Western Carolina with 23 points.
  • Kameron Gibson contributed 20 points for the Catamounts.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Samford jumped out to an early 7-2 lead with 17:38 to go in the first half following a layup by Allen.
  • Western Carolina came back with a 9-3 run to take an 11-10 lead with 15:25 left in the opening half.
  • The Catamounts extended their lead to six points at 20-14 with 11:49 left in the half.
  • With WCU leading, 24-18, Samford went on a 13-0 run to take a 31-24 lead with 4:16 to go in the first half after a three-point play by Allen.
  • The Catamounts fought back to cut the lead to one at 35-34, and a three-pointer by WCU's Steger with three seconds left in the half gave the Catamounts a 37-35 lead at halftime.
  • In the second half, Western Carolina pushed its lead to as many as nine points at 55-46 with 11:00 left in the contest.
  • Samford fought back to take a two-point lead at 65-63 with 2:54 left after two free throws by Brandon Austin.
  • Western Carolina answered with a 9-2 run to take a 72-67 lead with 27 seconds left after a three-pointer by Steger.
  • The Catamounts hit four clutch free throws down the stretch to close out the 76-69 win.
