Men's Basketball Cruises To 102-64 Win Over UVA-Wise

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford men's basketball team picked up a 102-64 win over UVA-Wise Wednesday evening in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 2-2 on the season. UVA-Wise is 1-2 on the young season. Wednesday night's game counted as an exhibition for the Cavaliers.

  • Samford was led by Brandon Austin with 28 points in the win.
  • Robert Allen had 20 points and seven rebounds.
  • DeAndre Thomas scored a career-high 15 points, and dished out six assists.
  • Logan Dye had a career-high 14 points for the Bulldogs.
  • For UVA-Wise, Chance Sheffey and Cameron Whiteside had 12 points each.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Samford jumped out to an early 9-3 lead with 15:53 left in the first half after a layup by Austin.
  • UVA-Wise fought back to cut the lead to one at 13-12 with 13:42 left in the half after a three-pointer by Whiteside.
  • Samford pushed its lead out to 14 points at 32-18 with 6:56 left in the opening period following a jumper by Dye.
  • The Bulldogs led by as many as 17 points in the first half, and Samford took a 44-27 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • Samford started the second half with a 23-3 run to push its lead out to 67-30 with 15:04 left in the game after a three-point play by Austin.
  • The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 41 points at 86-45 with 7:21 to go after a basket by Thomas.
  • Samford led by as many as 42 points and finished with the 102-64 win.
