Women's Basketball Earns Exhibition Win Over Oglethorpe, 86-52

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford women's basketball team picked up an 86-52 exhibition game win over Oglethorpe Saturday afternoon in the Pete Hanna Center. The game was the first game on the Samford bench for new head coach Carley Kuhns.
 
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Katie Allen led Samford in scoring with 17 points, while also grabbing six rebounds.
  • Sarah Myers, a transfer from Maryland in her first game in a Samford uniform, tallied 16 points and seven rebounds.
  • Ta'Naisha Hill had 11 points and a team-high five assists.
  • For Oglethorpe, Savannah LeGate had 14 points and five rebounds.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Samford held a 10-7 lead midway through the first quarter, but the Bulldogs closed the period on a 9-0 run to take a 19-7 advantage.
  • In the second quarter, Samford opened up a 22-point lead at 33-11 with 3:22 to go before halftime after a three-pointer by Paige Serup.
  • Samford took a 42-18 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • Samford pushed its lead out to 30 points at 55-25 with 5:20 left in the third quarter after a pair of free throws by Myers.
  • The Bulldogs held a 66-40 lead at the end of the third quarter.
  • In the fourth quarter, Samford built its lead to as many as 35 points at 86-51, and the Bulldogs finished with the 86-52 win.
