BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team opened its 2019-20 season with an 81-60 victory over Montevallo Tuesday evening in the Pete Hanna Center. The game was the regular-season debut for first-year Samford head coach Carley Kuhns.

• Sarah Myers led Samford with 17 points and eight rebounds.
• Raven Omar scored a career-high 15 points.
• Charity Brown added 13 points and five assists.
• For Montevallo, Shyan Flack had 16 points and eight rebounds.
• Marissa Snodgrass tallied 14 points for the Falcons.

 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• Montevallo jumped out to a 17-4 lead with 3:02 to play in the first quarter following a three-pointer by Aaliyah Rice.
• Montevallo held a 21-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
• The Falcons stretched their lead to 14 points at 26-12 with 9:01 left in the second quarter after a three-pointer by Marisa Snodgrass.
• With Samford trailing, 28-16, the Bulldogs used a 9-0 run to cut the lead to 28-25 with 4:12 to go in the second period after two free throws by Katie Allen.
• With Montevallo leading, 30-25, Samford went on an 11-0 run to take a 36-30 lead, and the Bulldogs took a 41-34 lead into the locker room at halftime.
• Samford pushed its lead to 11 points at 45-34 with 9:17 left in the third period after a layup by Natalie Armstrong.
• The Bulldogs led by as many as 17 points in the third quarter, and Samford led, 62-49 at the end of the period.
• Samford controlled the fourth quarter, finishing with the 81-60 victory.
