AUBURN, Ala. –
The Samford football team dropped a 52-0 decision at FBS-16th-ranked Auburn Saturday afternoon at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

With the loss, Samford ends its season with a record of 5-7. The Bulldogs were 4-4 in Southern Conference play. Auburn improves to 8-3 with the win, and the Tigers are 4-3 in the SEC.

"This is the biggest game that I've come into as this type of underdog, we knew it was going to be very tough to move the ball," Samford head coach Chris Hatcher said. "We had some positive plays early when we spread them out. Defensively, I thought we played well early. They got some big plays on us and it just kind of snowballed from there."

For Samford in the loss, Liam Welch completed 12-of-23 passes for 66 yards. Ja'Rus Creamer had one catch for 20 yards. Nathan East led the defense with nine tackles, all solo stops. Jaleel Laguins had seven tackles, including one tackle for loss.

For Auburn, Bo Nix completed 15-of-23 passes for 150 yards and a touchdown. Marlon Davidson had four tackles, including 2.5 tackles for loss and a sack.

Auburn scored on its first offensive drive when JaTarvious Whitlow scored on a one-yard run to give the Tigers a 7-0 lead with 8:13 left in the first quarter. On Auburn's next possession, Samford's Joshua Carter blocked an Anders Carlson field goal attempt to end the threat.

On the first drive of the second quarter Whitlow scored on a three-yard run to make the score 14-0 with 14:08 left in the second period. Auburn's Nix connected with Harold Joiner for a 10-yard touchdown pass to push the lead to 21-0 with 9:37 left in the second quarter.
