BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's basketball team got off to a hot start on its way to a 72-60 win over in-state rival Troy Saturday afternoon in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 4-3 on the season. Troy falls to 1-5 with the loss.

• DeAndre Thomas led Samford with a career-high 21 points.
• Jalen Dupree had 13 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
• Brandon Austin added 11 points for the Bulldogs.
• Josh Sharkey dished out 14 assists, to go along with his eight points.

 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• Samford started the game off hot, racing out to a 22-2 lead with 13:02 left in the first half after a dunk by Dupree.
• Troy fought back to cut the lead to 12 points at 27-15 with 6:32 left in the opening half.
• Samford took a 43-22 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
• Samford led by as many as 27 points in the second half at 62-35 with 10:18 to go.
• Troy used a late run to cut the lead to 12 points at 70-58, but Samford was able to pull out the 72-60 win.
