BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Samford men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought 86-77 contest at South Dakota State Wednesday evening.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 4-4 on the season. South Dakota State improves to 6-3 with the win.

• Brandon Austin led Samford with 19 points.
• Josh Sharkey had 16 points and nine assists.
• Jalen Dupree posted a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
• Robert Allen scored 13 points, while Donte Tatum added 10 points for the Bulldogs.

 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• South Dakota State took an early 6-2 lead with 18:07 left in the first half after two free throws by Alex Arians.
• Samford fought back to tie the score at 12-12 with 13:27 left in the half after a free throw by Allen.
• SDSU answered with a 7-0 run to take a 19-12 lead with 10:52 to go in the first half after a three-pointer by Tray Buchanan.
• Samford came back with a 13-2 run to take a 25-21 lead with 6:07 left in the half after a free throw by Tatum.
• South Dakota State fought back to take a 34-29 lead with 3:30 to go in the half.
• The Jackrabbits took a 43-38 lead into the locker room at halftime.
• Samford started the second half with a 5-0 run to tie the score at 43-43 with 19:04 left in the second period.
• South Dakota State built the lead back to five points at 50-45, but Samford fought back to take a 59-57 lead with 12:48 to go after a layup by Logan Dye.
• With SDSU leading, 63-59, Samford went on a 10-2 run to take a 69-65 lead at the 9:43 mark in the second half following a layup by Allen.
• South Dakota State came back to take a 76-70 lead with 4:14 to go after two free throws by Brandon Key.
• Samford cut the lead to two at 79-77, but SDSU scored the final seven points of the game to pull out the 86-77 win.
