
Hester And DiChiara Named Preseason All-American By Collegiate Baseball

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford pitcher Zach Hester and first baseman Sonny DiChiara were both named third team preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball when the publication released its preseason teams Tuesday morning.
In 2019, Hester posted a 7-4 record and he led the team and finished third in the Southern Conference with a 2.17 ERA. He led the team with 82 strikeouts, while allowing just 12 walks in 83.0 innings of work. Hester held opposing batters to a .216 batting average.
DiChiara led the team and finished second in the SoCon in both home runs (21) and runs batted in (55). DiChiara batted .293 and posted an impressive .646 slugging percentage. He had four games during the season with multiple home runs. At the conclusion of the 2019 season, DiChiara was named a Freshman All-American.
Samford will open the 2020 season Feb. 14-16 when the Bulldogs host UNC Asheville in a three-game series. The teams are scheduled to play Friday at 4 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
