BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team staged a late rally, but fell just short in a 76-69 loss at cross-town rival UAB Tuesday night at Bartow Arena.
With the loss, Samford falls to 3-7 on the season. UAB improves to 5-2 with the win.

- Natalie Armstrong led Samford with 22 points and nine rebounds.
- Charity Brown had 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
- Sarah Myers had 11 points and seven rebounds for Samford.
- UAB was led by Rachael Childress with 20 points.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Samford took an early 7-3 lead with 7:20 to go in the first quarter following a layup by Shauntai Battle.
- UAB came back to tie the game at 9-9 with 5:16 left in the period after a three-pointer by Childress.
- After Samford took a 13-9 lead, UAB ended the quarter with an 11-0 run to take a 20-13 lead at the end of the period.
- Samford cut the lead to 20-17 with 8:39 left in the second quarter after a basket by Myers.
- Samford closed to within one point at 25-24 at the 4:53 mark in the second period after a jumper by Armstrong.
- UAB pushed its lead to nine at 33-24, and the Blazers took a 37-29 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- The Blazers stretched their lead to 42-29 with 8:45 left in the third quarter.
- With Samford trailing, 46-35, UAB went on a 9-0 run to push its lead to 55-35 with 3:34 left in the period.
- Samford answered with a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 55-42 with 1:41 left in the third quarter after a three-pointer by Armstrong.
- UAB led, 58-47 after three quarters.
- Samford scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter to cut the lead to just four points at 58-54 with 8:15 to play after a three-pointer by Myers.
- UAB answered with a 6-0 run to push the lead back out to 10 points at 64-54 with 6:52 to play.
- Samford went on a 6-0 run of its own to cut the lead to 64-60 with 3:05 to go after a jumper by Katie Allen.
- UAB pushed its lead back to eight at 69-61, but Samford was able to cut it back to four at 73-69 with 29 seconds left.
- The Blazers, however, were able to hold on for the 76-69 win.
