BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women's basketball team earned a 58-43 Southern Conference win over the Western Carolina Catamounts Thursday night at the Pete Hanna Center.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 8-16 overall and 3-6 in Southern Conference play. Western Carolina falls to 4-21 overall and 0-10 in league play.

• Samford was led by Natalie Armstrong with 15 points and nine rebounds.
• Ta'Naisha Hill scored 10 points for the Bulldogs.
• Samantha Fitzgerald scored seven points for Samford.
• Raven Omar tallied six points and five assists, while Shauntai Battle and Paige Serup also scored six points each.
• For Western Carolina, Jewel Smalls led the way with 13 points.
• Angel Allen added 10 points for the Catamounts.

 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• Samford scored the first seven points of the game to take an early 7-0 lead with 4:46 to go in the first quarter after a layup by Armstrong.
• Western Carolina answered with a 10-2 run to take a 10-9 lead with 23 seconds left in the opening period.
• A late jumper by Omar gave the Bulldogs an 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
• Samford opened the second quarter with a 10-3 run to take a 21-13 lead with 6:07 to go in the period following a three-point play by Armstrong.
• Samford took a 24-15 lead into the locker room at halftime.
• Western Carolina fought back to cut the lead to three points at 32-29 with 2:50 left in the third quarter.
• Samford scored five of the last six points of the quarter to push its lead to 37-30 at the end of the third period.
• Samford pushed its lead out to 12 points at 42-30 with 8:04 to go after a layup by Hill.
• Western Carolina cut the lead to seven points at 48-41, but the Catamounts could get no closer as Samford pulled away for the 58-43 win.
