Baseball Evens USF Series With 7-3 Win

TAMPA, Fla. –
The Samford baseball team evened its series at South Florida with a 7-3 win Saturday night at the USF Baseball Stadium.
 
With the win, Samford is now 1-1 on the young season. South Florida also has a 1-1 mark so far.
 
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Ayrton Schafer went 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI to lead Samford at the plate.
  • Preston Moore went 2-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBI.
  • Branden Fryman also drove in two runs in a 1-for-5 performance at the plate.
  • Connor Radcliff (1-0) pitched 2.2 innings in relief, without allowing a hit to pick up the win on the mound for Samford.
  • Jesse McCord started the game for Samford, tossing 4.1 innings, giving up three runs on five hits.
  • For USF, Austin Bodrato went 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.
  • Alec Wisely (0-1) tossed 4.1 innings, giving up five runs on seven hits to take the loss for the Bulls.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • Samford jumped on top first with two runs in the top of the second inning. Fryman singled up the middle to drive in Max Pinto and Taylor Garris for a 2-0 Samford lead.
  • After USF plated its first run in the third inning, Samford added three more runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-1 lead.
  • USF scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the lead to 5-3.
  • Samford put the game away with two runs in the eighth inning to make the final score 7-3. Schafer doubled to left field to drive in Brooks Carlson and Jordan Fucci for the game's final two runs.
