TAMPA, Fla. – The Samford baseball team dropped a 4-1 decision in the final game of a three-game series at South Florida Sunday afternoon at the USF Baseball Stadium.
With the loss, Samford falls to 1-2 on the young season. USF now has a record of 2-1.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
- Brooks Carlson and Kaden Dreier had two hits each to lead Samford at the plate.
- Preston Moore drove in Samford's lone run, turning in a 1-for-4 performance.
- Zach Hester (0-1) pitched 4.0 innings, giving up two runs on four hits to take the loss on the mound for Samford.
- For USF, Nick Gonzalez went 3-for-5 at the plate.
- Jordan Santos drove in two runs for the Bulls.
- Ben Koff (1-0) tossed 4.2 innings in relief, giving up no runs on one hit to earn the win on the mound for USF.
- Graham Hoffman pitched the final 2.1 scoreless innings to pick up his first save of the season.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Samford got on the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the second inning. Moore singled to right field to drive in Dreier for a 1-0 Samford lead.
- USF took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Santos doubled to right-center field to drive in Gonzalez and Jake Sullivan for a 2-1 Bulls lead.
- South Florida added a run in the seventh inning to push its lead to 3-1. Kyle Phillips singled to right field to drive in Gonzalez.
- The Bulls plated one final run in the bottom of the eighth inning to make the final score 4-1.
