BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Trailing by four points with 47 seconds left to play in regulation, the Samford University men's basketball team used some late game heroics before sealing the game in overtime to pick up the 80-76 win against Southern Conference foe Chattanooga Saturday afternoon in the Pete Hanna Center.
With the win, Samford improves to 16-11 overall and 6-8 in the SoCon, while Chattanooga falls to 11-16 on the year and 6-8 in the league.

- Ruben Guerrero picked up his seventh double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
- Josh Sharkey tied his career-high and finished with a game-high 27 points after going 10-of-19 from the field and 7-of-11 from the free throw line.
- Myron Gordon chipped in 13 points including the game tying free throw with two seconds to play.
- Chattanooga was led by David Jean-Baptiste, who tallied 29 points.
- The Bulldogs were clutch in overtime by going 4-of-5 from the floor compared to just a 3-of-8 shooting performance from the Mocs in the extra period.
- For the game, Samford made 48 percent of its shots compared to a 39 percent clip for UTC.
- The game featured seven lead changes and nine ties.
- Today's win was the 100th program win in the Pete Hanna Center.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Chattanooga led by as many eight points in the first half before Samford knotted the game at 28 on a Brandon Austin triple with 5:33 left.
- It was the Mocs who pulled ahead right before the half taking a 40-38 lead into the break.
- The Mocs kept the lead for the first nine minutes of the half before Samford mounted an 8-2 run to take a 55-53 lead with 11:02 to play on a Sharkey layup.
- With UTC up four, 68-64, with 47 seconds to play the Bulldogs went to work. Sharkey closed the gap to two with a layup, then one, 68-67, on a free throw with eight seconds to play.
- On the ensuing inbounds, Sharkey stole the ball and found Robert Allen in the lane. Allen couldn't convert, but Gordon was fouled on the way back up after collecting the offensive rebound. His free throw with one second left sent the game into overtime.
- Samford built quick four-point lead, 72-68, with just over a minute into the extra period, before holding on to seal the victory.
