Men's Golf Finishes Second At La Tour Intercollegiate

MATHEWS La. -- A great tournament came to a close on Tuesday afternoon for the Samford men's golf team, as the Bulldogs finished in second place in a field of 12 teams at the La Tour Intercollegiate with a three round total of 885 (+21).
The second place finish marks the third straight tournament that the Bulldogs have placed in the top ten dating back to October. After the final round Samford Head Coach Al DelGreco talked about how proud he was of the team being able to battle through tough weather conditions.
"I really liked the way the guys just gutted it out and played steady golf in really bad conditions. It was raining, really windy, and pretty cold but we still hung in there," said the fifth year head coach, "I was really proud of the way we battled the elements and finished well."
The highlight of the tournament for the Bulldogs was junior Harlan Winn, who shot two-under-par 214 (70-70-74) and finished in a tie for third individually. Winn had a tough front nine on Tuesday, as he doubled the par four first hole and tripled the par three fourth hole, but was able to turn it around with an eagle on the par five seventh and an even par back nine. After the tournament, Winn talked about how good this tournament was for his confidence,
"It definitely helps my confidence a lot. We played in terrible conditions so it was good to be able to play well through them," said the Samford junior, "It was also fun to be in contention to win too."
Senior Aaron Walker also had an impressive finish on Tuesday, as he shot four-over-par 220 (78-70-72) and finished in a tie for 10th. This marks the second tournament for Walker with a top ten, as he finished third last week at the UNCG Martin Downs Collegiate.After the round. Coach DelGreco mentioned how important Walker's consistent play is to his team,
"Aaron had a rough few holes on the first day, but you really know what you're getting when he goes out on the course," DelGreco said. "You know that he is going to hang in there and play hard and he really played well in the last two rounds."
