Men's Basketball Falls In OT At The Citadel, 87-83

CHARLESON, S.C. –
The Samford men's basketball team dropped a hard-fought 87-83 overtime contest at The Citadel Saturday afternoon at McAlister Fieldhouse.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 16-13 overall and 6-10 in Southern Conference play. The Citadel improves to 12-15 overall and 4-12 in league contests.

  • Myron Gordon led Samford with 23 points.
  • Josh Sharkey scored 18 points for the Bulldogs. Sharkey dished out six assists to become the school's career leader in the category with 520, breaking the old record of 514 by Christen Cunningham.
  • Robert Allen scored 13 points and grabbed 18 rebounds.
  • Ruben Guerrero tallied 11 points and 10 rebounds for Samford.
  • For The Citadel, Zane Najdawi led the way with 24 points.
  • Lew Stallworth followed with 23 points for The Citadel.

  • Samford jumped out to an early 7-3 lead with 16:37 to go in the first half after a free throw by Guerrero.
  • The Citadel came back with an 11-3 run to take a 14-10 lead with 12:01 left in the opening half.
  • Samford fought back to take a 19-17 lead with 9:07 to go in the first half after a layup by Deandre Thomas.
  • The Bulldogs took a 10-point lead at 34-24 with 1:21 to go in the half after a three-pointer by Sharkey.
  • Samford held a 37-27 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.
  • The Citadel fought back to close to within one point at 49-48 with 12:20 to go in the second half.
  • The Citadel took a 61-56 lead with 5:46 to go in the second half.
  • Samford fought back to take a 69-65 lead with 1:38 to go in regulation.
  • With Samford leading, 71-68, Najdawi hit a three-pointer with 22 seconds left to knot the score at 71-71 and the game headed to overtime at the same score.

  • Samford cut the lead to 85-83, but the Bulldogs could not get over the hump as The Citadel held on for the 87-83 win.
