Men's Basketball Falls At Home To Furman, 90-81

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford men's basketball team dropped a 90-81 decision to Furman Thursday evening in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 16-14 overall and 6-11 in Southern Conference play. Furman improves to 23-6 overall and 12-5 in league contests.

  • Myron Gordon led Samford with 21 points in the loss.
  • Kevion Nolan scored 18 points, while Ruben Guerrero and Josh Sharkey added 13 points each.
  • Robert Allen grabbed 13 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
  • Jordan Lyons led Furman with 17 points.
  • Matt Rafferty had 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Alex Hunter tallied 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Paladins.
  • Clay Mounce also scored 15 points for Furman.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Furman jumped out to an early 8-2 lead, but Samford scored the next five points to cut the lead to one at 8-7 with 16:34 to go in the first half after a layup by Sharkey.
  • With Furman leading, 11-10, the Paladins went on a 9-0 run to take a 20-10 lead with 13:22 left in the opening period.
  • Samford fought back to cut the lead to four at 20-16 with 8:55 left in the first half after a three-pointer by Stefan Lakic.
  • Furman then went on a 12-2 run to take a 32-18 lead with 6:14 left in the opening period.
  • Samford clawed back to within eight points at 32-24 with 4:59 left in the half after a dunk by Gordon.
  • With Furman leading, 42-33, the Paladins closed the half with an 8-2 run to take a 50-35 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • Early in the second half, Furman pushed its lead out to 24 points at 59-35 with 15:48 to go in the game.
  • Samford cut the lead to 13 points at 66-53 with 10:51 left after a dunk by Guerrero.
  • The Bulldogs closed to within 10 points at 74-64 with 4:33 left after a three-pointer by Nolan.
  • Samford cut the lead to nine points on several occasions late, but Furman hit several key free throws down the stretch to hold on for the 90-81 win.
