BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford University's track and field team was in action once again at the Jaguar Invitational at the Birmingham Crossplex on Sunday.
Athletes from UAB, Alcorn State, Jackson State, Lee University, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Mercer, Meridian Community College, Mississippi Valley, Southeastern Louisiana, South Alabama, and Texas State all competed during the meet.
Two student-athletes from Samford competed in the women's weight throw.
Camille Caldwell finished fourth overall with a long distance of 17.95 meters while Tatianna Taylor finished 13
th overall after throwing a long of 15.29 meters.
Matt Cahoon finished 11
th overall in the men's weight throw with a a longest throw of 13.64 meters.
In the women's version of the pole vault event, three Bulldogs finished in the top four.
Jackie Barnes, Jayme-Claire Eubanks and
Amanda Dumar placed second, third, and fourth respectively. All had distances over three meters. Barnes finished with a final of 3.65 meters, Eubanks finished with a final of 3.20 meters and Dumar finished with a best of 3.05 meters. In the men's division of the pole vault,
Hunter Schlatter finished tied for fifth with a distance in 4.32 meters.
In the women's shot put, Samford's
Maggie Johnston threw a long of 13.59 meters and placed fifth overall in the event.
Tatiana Taylor and
Camille Caldwell also competed and placed 10
th and 13
th, respectively, with distances thrown of 12.66 meters and 10.90 meters. Samford's
Matt Cahoon compteted in the men's shot put and finished 11
th after throwing 13.76 meters.
Both
Selena Popp and
Charlotte Krause finished tied for eighth on the women's side. They both had a best height of 1.64 meters.
In the triple jump,
Morayo Bhadmos was able to place second overall after a jumping distance of 12.01 meters.
Charlotte Krause also competed and finished 10
th with a distance of 10.76 meters.
Ty Kimberlin placed fifth in the men's event with a 13.67 meter jump.
In the women's long jump event, three Bulldogs placed in the top ten.
Erin Hines finished fifth after a 5.60 meter jump.
Madeline Ballard finished behind her in sixth after turning in a distance of 5.49 meters and
Caroline Huff finished 10
th with a 5.13 meter distance.
Justin Stuckey and
Ty Kimberlin finished second and third respectively in the men's long jump. Each had distances of over 6.50 meters. Stuckey had a distance of 6.72 and Kimberlin finished with a best of 6.69 meters.
Titus Moore and Jon Waarvik also competed in the event for the Bulldogs finishing sixth and eighth respectively.
Titus Moore turned in a third place finish for the Bulldogs in the men's 60-meter hurdles. He finished with an 8.40 second time in the event.
Hannah Lueders finished In the top three for the Bulldogs in the 200-meter dash for the second consecutive meet. Lueders finished third in 24.94 seconds.
Vada Samuels finished the event in 10
th after a time of 25.65 and
Megan Meadow finished 24
th overall with a time of 27.81 seconds. and Samuels with a time 25.04 seconds in the event. The men's division of the event had
Emmanuel Tait take home seventh overall with a time of 22.09.
Carter Marchbanks and
Mary Kellison Thorne ran the women's mile on Sunday. Thorne finished 10
th overall after a time of 5:19.90 and Marchbanks finished 14
th with an official time of 5:35.78. The men's mile saw
Dillon Dean place in the top five after a 4:15.09 time that earned five points for Samford overall and a fourth place finish in the event.
Vada Samuels,
Rachel Dixon,
Lauren Beard, and
Morgan Hutchinson all competed for the Bulldogs in the women's 400-meter dash. Samuels finshed 11
th with a 58.85 second time and Dixon finished 15
th with a 59.77 second time. Beard and Hutchinson finished 19
th and 24
th with times of 1:00.90 and 1:04.58. Four Bulldogs competed in the finals of the 400 meter dash, with freshman
Jordan Woodbine placing seventh with a 50.11 second time.
Warren Fitzpatrick also competed and placed 11
th after a 50.44 time.
Jordan Oballe and
Jake Diggs finished 13
th and 14
th respectively in the event.
Samford once again dominated the 800-meter run on the women's side.
Shian Mallory and
Mary Grace Strozier finished in first and second with times of 2:13.53 and 2:16.02.
Lindsey Biggar also ran for the Bulldogs and placed seventh overall after a time of 2:24.35. The men's event saw success again from the Bulldogs. Ben Garner placed third after a time of 1:55.61.
Owen Bailey placed sixth after completing the event in 1:57.17.
Jake Maddox and
Joyner Bousquet finished 10
th and 11
th after putting in sub-two minute times as well. Maddox finished in 1:58.83 and Bousquet finished in 1:58.94. Samford's
Seth Corey and
Hunter Poole finished 14
th and 15
th after times of 1:59.62 and 2:00.20.
Luke Dobbins and
Will Nichols also placed 17
th and 22
nd overall. Dobbins turned in a time of 2:02.06 and Nichols finished in 2:03.47.
Anna Huntington and
Hannah Belcher of Samford competed in the women's 3,000 meter run, both finishing in the top ten. Huntington finished with a 10:32.49 time, good enough for fourth overall. Belcher turned in a time of 11:33.16 and finished 10
th overall.
The day ended with the women's and men's 4x400 meter relays. Samford women took home fourth place with a 3:55.96 time, while the men placed sixth with a time of 3:21.09.
The Bulldogs' track and field team is back in action on Friday, February 8 when they host the Bulldog Invite at the Birmingham Crossplex again.
