ATLANTA, Ga. – The Samford baseball team pounded out 15 hits on its way to a 13-2 win in the first game of a three-game series Friday at Georgia State.
With the win, Samford improves to 5-3 on the young season. Georgia State falls to 3-6 with the loss.

- Brooks Carlson went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI for Samford.
- Taylor Garris went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
- Max Pinto and Sonny DiChiara had two hits and an RBI each.
- Samuel Strickland (2-1) pitched 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on six hits to earn the win on the mound for Samford.
- Hunter Gaddis (0-1) took the loss for the Panthers, tossing 4.1 innings, giving up 10 runs on 13 hits.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Samford scored three runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth to take a 6-1 lead. In the third inning, Anthony Mulrine, DiChiara and Garris drove in a run each. In the fourth inning, Carlson hit a two-run home run, and Pinto scored on an error.
- The Bulldogs plated six more runs in the fifth inning to push their lead to 12-1. Branden Fryman drove in two runs, Pinto and Ayrton Schafer drove in one run each, and Fryman and Jordan Fucci both scored on an error.
- Georgia State plated a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, and Samford added a run in the top of the eighth to make the final score 13-2.
LOOKING AHEAD
Due to expected rain Sunday in Atlanta, Samford and Georgia State will now play a doubleheader Saturday, beginning at 12 p.m. (CT) to wrap up the series.
