Baseball Earns 10th-Straight Win To Sweep Series From KSU

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford baseball team ran its current win streak to 10 games with a 6-3 win in the final game of a three-game series Sunday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 12-3 on the season. Kennesaw State falls to 6-9 with the loss.
 
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Brooks Carlson went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI to lead Samford at the plate.
  • Taylor Garris went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI for the Bulldogs.
  • Luke Corbin (1-0) pitched 1.0 inning in relief, giving up no runs on two hits to earn the win on the mound for Samford.
  • Jalon Long picked up his first save of the season, tossing the final 3.0 innings, giving up just two hits.
  • Daniel Seres led KSU offensively, going 2-for-3 with two home runs and two RBI.
  • Josh Coburn (1-1) took the loss on the mound for the Owls, tossing 2.0 innings, giving up three runs on two hits.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • Samford jumped on top first with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Garris scored on a bases-loaded walk for a 1-0 Samford lead.
  • Kennesaw State tied the game with a run in the top of the third inning. Seres hit a solo home run to left field to knot the score at 1-1.
  • The Bulldogs took the lead for good with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Garris scored the first run on a wild pitch, and Carlson later scored on a fielder's choice by Ryan Crockett for a 3-1 Samford lead.
  • In the top of the fifth inning, Seres hit his second solo homer of the game to cut the Samford lead to 3-2.
  • Samford stretched its lead to 6-2 with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Garris doubled to drive in Branden Fryman and Preston Moore for the first two runs in the inning. The third run scored when Carlson singled up the middle to drive in Garris.
  • KSU added a run in the top of the seventh inning to cut the Samford lead to 6-3. Alex Carballo scored when Tyler Simon grounded out to close to within three runs.
