NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 1-ranked Vanderbilt baseball team plated nine runs in the bottom of the first inning on its way to an 11-6 win over Samford Tuesday night at Hawkins Field.
The loss ends Samford's 10-game win stream, and the Bulldogs fall to 12-4 on the season. Vanderbilt improves to 14-3 with the win.

- Branden Fryman went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead Samford at the plate.
- Anthony Mulrine also had two hits for the Bulldogs.
- Taylor Garris had three RBI for the Bulldogs.
- Gene Hurst (1-1) gave up four runs on two hits to take the loss for Samford.
- Philip Clarke went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI to lead the Commodores at the plate.
- Pat DeMarco went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Cooper Davis was also 2-for-4 with an RBI.
- Mason Hickman (1-0) earned the win for Vanderbilt, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing just two hits.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Samford scored two runs in the top of the first inning to grab an early 2-0 lead. Brooks Carlson singled to drive in Fryman for the first run, and Garris walked with the bases loaded to bring in Carlson for a two-run Samford lead.
- Vanderbilt responded with nine runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 9-2 lead. All nine of the Commodores' hitters scored in the inning.
- The Commodores plated another run in the second inning to push their lead to 10-2.
- Samford answered with four runs in the top of the third inning to cut the lead to 10-6. Garris drove in two runs, while Preston Moore and Fryman drove in one run each in the inning.
- Vanderbilt added a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to make the final score 11-6.

Samford will host Maine in a three-game series this weekend. The teams are scheduled to play Friday at 4 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
