Baseball Takes Series From Maine With 4-0 Win Sunday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford baseball team picked up a series win with a 4-0 victory over Maine Sunday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
 
With the win, Samford earns the series win over the Black Bears, two games to one. Samford improves to 14-5 on the season. Maine falls to 1-15 with the loss.


 
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Sonny DiChiara homered and drove in two runs in a 1-for-3 performance to lead Samford at the plate.
  • Max Pinto went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Bulldogs.
  • Zach Hester (2-1) pitched 6.0 innings, allowing no runs on two hits and striking out eight batters without allowing a walk to earn the win on the mound for Samford.
  • Connor Radcliff picked up his first save of the season, allowing one hit over the final 3.0 innings.
  • For Maine, Hernen Sardinas, Colin Ridley and Cody Pasic had a hit each to lead the Black Bears.
  • Jacob Small (0-2) pitched 2.0 innings in relief, giving up two runs on one hit to take the loss for Maine.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • The game was scoreless until Samford put two runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning. DiChiara hit a two-run home run to center field to give Samford a 2-0 lead.
  • The Bulldogs added two more runs in the seventh inning to make the final score 4-0. Pinto scored the first run of the inning on a passed ball. The game's final run was scored when Brooks Carlson singled up the middle to drive in Connor Burns.

Samford will host the Mississippi State Bulldogs Wednesday, March 20. The game is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start from Joe Lee Griffin Field.
