Baseball Completes Sweep Of Furman With 3-0 Win Sunday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford baseball team completed its Southern Conference series sweep of Furman with a 3-0 win over the Paladins Sunday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
 
With the win, Samford improves to 17-6 overall and 3-0 in Southern Conference play. Furman falls to 5-16 overall and 0-3 in league contests.


 
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Jordan Fucci went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI to lead Samford at the plate.
  • Kaden Dreier and Connor Burns also drove in a run each for the Bulldogs.
  • Zach Hester (3-1) pitched 8.0 innings, giving up no runs on three hits to earn the win for Samford. Hester struck out eight batters without allowing a walk in the win.
  • Stephen Jones picked up his eighth save of the season, tossing the final hitless inning to close out the win.
  • For Furman, Dax Roper, Logan Taplett and David Webel had one hit each.
  • David Dunlavey (1-5) took the loss on the mound for Furman, tossing 6.0 innings and allowing three runs on five hits.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • The game was scoreless through the first three innings until Samford plated a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, Dreier walked, driving home Fucci for a 1-0 Samford lead.
  • The Bulldogs added a run in the fifth inning to push their lead to 2-0. Fucci doubled down the right field line to drive in Branden Fryman for a two-run Samford lead.
  • Samford plated the game's final run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Dreier scored on a sacrifice fly by Burns to make the final score 3-0.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Samford will play at cross-town rival UAB Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Regions Field.
