BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team completed its Southern Conference series sweep of Furman with a 3-0 win over the Paladins Sunday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
With the win, Samford improves to 17-6 overall and 3-0 in Southern Conference play. Furman falls to 5-16 overall and 0-3 in league contests.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
- Jordan Fucci went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI to lead Samford at the plate.
- Kaden Dreier and Connor Burns also drove in a run each for the Bulldogs.
- Zach Hester (3-1) pitched 8.0 innings, giving up no runs on three hits to earn the win for Samford. Hester struck out eight batters without allowing a walk in the win.
- Stephen Jones picked up his eighth save of the season, tossing the final hitless inning to close out the win.
- For Furman, Dax Roper, Logan Taplett and David Webel had one hit each.
- David Dunlavey (1-5) took the loss on the mound for Furman, tossing 6.0 innings and allowing three runs on five hits.
SCORING SUMMARY
- The game was scoreless through the first three innings until Samford plated a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. With the bases loaded, Dreier walked, driving home Fucci for a 1-0 Samford lead.
- The Bulldogs added a run in the fifth inning to push their lead to 2-0. Fucci doubled down the right field line to drive in Branden Fryman for a two-run Samford lead.
- Samford plated the game's final run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Dreier scored on a sacrifice fly by Burns to make the final score 3-0.
