BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team dropped a 9-0 decision at cross-town rival UAB Tuesday evening at Regions Field.
With the loss, Samford falls to 17-7 on the season. UAB improves to 12-14 with the win.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
- Anthony Mulrine led Samford at the plate, going 2-for-3.
- Jalon Long (1-1), one of nine pitchers used by Samford in the game, took the loss, tossing 3.0 innings, allowing two runs, just one earned, on three hits.
- For UAB, Zack Davis drove in four runs, going 1-for-5 with a triple.
- Jess Davis drove in two runs in a 1-for-3 performance.
- Riley Davis (3-1) got the win for UAB, pitching 1.0 inning in relief, giving up no runs on one hit.
SCORING SUMMARY
- UAB plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a quick 2-0 lead. Jess Davis scored the first run on a Samford error, and J. Paul Fullerton later scored on a ground out by Zack Davis.
- The Blazers added a run in the fourth inning to push their lead to 3-0. Ian Ladner scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Tolbert.
- UAB scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to make the score 5-0. Jess Davis singled to drive in Blake Johnson and Ladner for a five-run Blazer lead.
- In the bottom of the eighth inning, UAB scored three runs on a triple by Zack Davis, and another on a single by Colton Schultz to make the final score 9-0.

Samford will play a three-game series at VMI this weekend. The teams are scheduled to play Friday at 5 p.m. (CT), Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT) and Sunday at 11 a.m. (CT).
