JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Samford baseball team used a four-run top of the first inning to take a 5-3 victory at in-state rival Jacksonville State Tuesday night at Rudy Abbott Field at Jim Case Stadium.
The win was Samford's sixth-straight this season, and the Bulldogs improve to 8-3. Jacksonville State falls to 5-8 with the loss.

- Brooks Carlson went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored to lead Samford at the plate.
- Preston Moore went 2-for-4 with two RBI for the Bulldogs.
- Jordan Fucci also had two hits for Samford.
- Gene Hurst (1-0) pitched 5.0 innings, allowing one run on four hits to earn the win for Samford.
- Stephen Jones pitched the final inning, allowing just one hit to pick up his fourth save of the season.
- For Jacksonville State, Tre Kirklin went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple and one RBI.
- Colin Casey (0-1) tossed 1.1 innings, allowing four runs on six hits to take the loss for the Gamecocks.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Samford jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the top of the first inning. Fucci scored the first run on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Mulrine. Taylor Garris walked with the bases loaded, bringing in Carlson to make the score 2-0. Moore then singled to drive in Connor Burns and Sonny DiChiara for a 4-0 Samford lead.
- The Bulldogs added another run in the top of the third inning to push their lead to 5-0. Garris scored on a JSU error for a five-run Samford lead.
- Jacksonville State plated a run in the fifth inning and two more in the eighth to make the final score 5-3.
