SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Samford baseball team earned a 6-1 win in the final game of a three-game Southern Conference series at Wofford Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Samford earned the series win over Wofford, two games to one. The Bulldogs have now won 11 of their last 12 games, and their season record improves to 33-12 overall and 13-2 in SoCon play. Wofford falls to 26-19 overall and 8-6 in league play.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
- Brooks Carlson went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead Samford at the plate.
- Kaden Dreier went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
- Ayrton Schafer also drove in a run for the Bulldogs.
- Zach Hester (6-3) pitched 7.0 innings, giving up just one run on two hits to earn the win on the mound for Samford.
- Stephen Jones picked up his 11th save of the season. Jones entered the game with the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, and he got the Bulldogs out of the jam without allowing a run. He then kept the Terriers scoreless in the ninth inning to close out the win.
- Brett Rodriguez drove in Wofford's lone run of the game, going 1-for-3 at the plate.
- David Yourke (1-3) pitched 4.0 innings, giving up three runs on five hits to take the loss on the mound for Wofford.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Samford got on the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the third inning. Max Pinto scored on a sacrifice fly by Carlson for a 1-0 Samford lead.
- Wofford tied the score with a run in the bottom of the third inning.
- The Bulldogs then took the lead again with two runs in the top of the fourth inning. Dreier hit a two-run home run to give Samford a 3-1 lead.
- Samford added three more runs in the fifth inning to push its lead to 6-1. Carlson hit a two-run single for the first two runs. The final run of the inning was scored when Carlson scored on a sacrifice fly by Schafer.
