BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team earned a 6-3 win over UT Martin in the second game of a three-game series Saturday afternoon at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
With the win, Samford improves to 22-9 on the season. UT Martin falls to 11-19 with the loss.
FROM THE BOX SCORE
- Jordan Fucci went 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBI to lead Samford at the plate.
- Brooks Carlson also drove in a run in the game for Samford.
- Billy Creger (1-0) pitched 1.1 innings in relief, giving up just one hit to earn the win on the mound for Samford.
- Stephen Jones picked up his SoCon-leading ninth save of the season, tossing the final inning without allowing a hit.
- Creighton Eldridge went 2-for-3 with a home run and one RBI to lead UT Martin.
- Ethan Whitley also had a two-run homer for the Skyhawks.
- Sam Folks (3-3) took the loss for the Skyhawks, pitching 5.2 innings, giving up six runs on seven hits.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Samford took the lead first with a run in the bottom of the first inning, but UT Martin tied the score with a run in the top of the second inning.
- The Bulldogs took the lead again with two runs in the bottom of the third inning. Fucci hit a two-run home run to right field to give Samford a 3-1 lead.
- UT Martin once again tied the game with two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Whitley hit a two-run homer to left field to knot the score at 3-3.
- Samford took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Fucci drove in two runs with a single, and Carlson also had an RBI single as Samford pulled away for the 6-3 win.
