Late Alabama Runs Doom Baseball In 4-2 Setback

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –
The Alabama baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to come back for a 4-2 win over Samford Tuesday night at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
 
With the loss, Samford falls to 37-16 on the season. Alabama improves to 30-23 with the victory.
 
FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Max Pinto and Sonny DiChiara each homered, going 1-for-4 at the plate each for Samford.
  • Brooks Carlson went 2-for-3 for the Bulldogs.
  • Connor Radcliff (2-2) gave up three runs, just two earned, to take the loss on the mound for Samford.
  • For Alabama Joe Breaux went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI.
  • Brett Auerbach went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Crimson Tide.
  • Jeremy Randolph (3-2) pitched 1.1 hitless innings of relief to earn the win on the mound for Alabama.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • Samford jumped out to a 2-0 lead on solo home runs by Pinto and DiChiara in the top of the third inning.
  • Alabama cut the Samford lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Kolby Robinson scored on a passed ball.
  • The Crimson Tide took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Tyler Gentry scored the first run on a sacrifice fly by T.J. Reeves. Breaux then hit a two-run home run to give Alabama a 4-2 lead.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Samford will travel to Johnson City, Tennessee, to take on the ETSU Bucs in a three-game Southern Conference series. The teams are scheduled to play Thursday at 5 p.m. (CT), Friday at 5 p.m. (CT) and Saturday at 1 p.m. (CT).
