BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Samford junior center
Natalie Armstrong scored a career-high 28 points to lead the Bulldog women's basketball team to a 72-64 win over Mercer Saturday afternoon in the Pete Hanna Center.
With the win, Samford improves to 7-11 overall and 2-1 in Southern Conference play. Mercer falls to 3-15 overall and 0-3 in league games. The win marks the first time Samford has defeated Mercer since the Bears joined the SoCon for the 2014-15 season.

- Armstrong made 12-of-13 shots from the floor and 4-of-6 from the free throw line in scoring a career-high 28 points.
- Sarah Myers had 16 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.
- Charity Brown scored 14 points and tied a career high with 12 assists.
- Mercer was led by Jaron Dougherty and Shannon Titus with 19 points each.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Samford grabbed an early five-point lead at 9-4 with 7:23 left in the first quarter after a free throw by Armstrong.
- Mercer fought back to take a 15-13 lead late in the quarter, but a late three-pointer by Brown gave Samford a 16-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- In the second quarter, Mercer built a 28-24 lead with 4:39 left in the period.
- Samford fought back to take a 29-28 lead with 3:17 left in the second quarter after a three-pointer by Shauntai Battle.
- The Bulldogs took a 34-33 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- Samford built a six-point lead early in the third quarter at 39-33 after a jumper by Brown.
- With Samford leading, 47-42, the Bulldogs scored the final seven points of the quarter to take a 54-42 lead at the end of the period.
- Samford pushed its lead to 17 points at 66-49 with 4:00 to go after a layup by Myers.
- Mercer fought back to cut the lead to five points at 69-64 with 25 seconds left, but Samford was able to hold on for the 72-64 win.
