Samford Volleyball Announces Two Signees

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford volleyball program has announced the addition of two student-athletes for its 2020-21 signing class Wednesday.
The program added outside hitter/right side hitter Gracie Lynn Butler and middle blocker Kaya Hood in the early signing period. One additional signee is expected.
Samford has won the last two, and three of the last four Southern Conference Tournament titles, advancing to the NCAA Tournament each season. The 2019 team posted a program-best 15-1 record in SoCon play, and the Bulldogs had an impressive 24-6 overall mark.
Below is a brief bio sketch on each signee.
Gracie Lynn Butler (OH/RS, 6-2, Hazel Green, Ala./Hazel Green HS)
Butler lettered five years in high school … she ranks second in the history of the state of Alabama in career kills with 2,737 … she also has 875 digs, 567 blocks and 224 service aces in 547 sets played … she was a three-time first team All-State honoree … she was a four-time member of the All-State Tournament team, and she helped lead her team to a 6A state title and a pair of runner-up finishes … she was named the All-Area Most Valuable Player three times … she was a member of the USA Junior Nationals Tournament team in 2018 and 2019.
Kaya Hood (MB, 6-5, Roswell, Ga./Trinity Catholic HS)
Hood spent her first two seasons at Immaculate Conception Catholic Prep in Illinois, and her last two seasons at Trinity Catholic High School in Georgia … she was named 2020 AVCA All-Region 3 and All-America watch list … she was also named 5A All-State and All-Region 7 in Georgia in 2020 … she was selected to play in the 2020 Georgia Coaches Association All-Star Game … she helped lead her team to the 2019 4A state championship in Georgia, and the team finished as the runner up in 5A in 2020 … she posted a career .384 hitting percentage.
