Women's Cross Country Finishes Second At Southern Conference Championships

MACON, Ga. – The Samford University men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up their abridged 2020 season at the Southern Conference Cross Country Championships, Saturday.
The women finished second in the team competition, topping ETSU by three points to take home the runner-up honors. McKenzie Hogue finished the five-kilometer course in 17:50.81 and taking third-place overall. Hogue was named to the Women's First-Team All-Southern Conference for her performance. Mary Kellison Thorne finished second for the Bulldogs and 11th overall with a time of 18:46.34, earning Women's Second-Team All-Southern Conference honors. Katie Strozier, Harper McGowan, and Allie Nelson rounded out the scoring for Samford with times of 19:12.71, 19:18.48, and 19:21.38 respectively.
The young men's squad finished fifth with Jeb Jones leading the way for the Bulldogs and completing the eight-kilometer course in a time of 26:35.67. Freshman, Ben Myers closed the gap for Samford finishing in 26:44.08. Myers' performance earned him 2020 Men's All-Freshman Team honors. Jack Elliott (27:07.45), Hunter Poole (27:08.42), and Charlie Lott (27:13.99) rounded out the scoring for the Bulldogs. Lott was also named to the Men's All-Freshman Team.
The Bulldogs will now turn their attention to the upcoming indoor track season slated to begin on January 15, 2021 with the Blazer Classic.
