BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford men's basketball team set school records for points in a game and assists in a game on its way to a 133-84 win over Belhaven Monday night in the Pete Hanna Center.
Samford's 133 points breaks the old record of 131, set against Mississippi College in 1971. The Bulldogs' 36 assists break the old record of 29 set against Nicholls State in 2016. Samford's 22 three-pointers fell just one short of the current record of 23, set against Troy in 2001.
With the win, Samford improves to 4-3 on the season. The game was an exhibition for Belhaven.

- Samford was led by A.J. Staton-McCray with 23 points, making 7-of-8 shots from the floor and 5-of-6 from three-point range.
- Triston Chambers scored 21 points for the Bulldogs.
- Logan Dye scored 15 points for Samford, while Jalen Dupree had 14 points and nine rebounds.
- Luke Couch led Belhaven with 25 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Samford jumped out to an early 8-2 lead with 17:21 to go in the first half following a jumper by Dye.
- Belhaven fought back to cut the lead to three points at 15-12 with 14:57 left in the first half after a pair of free throws by Couch.
- Samford answered with a 9-0 run to push its lead to 24-12 with 13:35 left in the opening half after a three-pointer by Jacob Tryon.
- The Bulldogs pushed their lead to 15 points at 32-17 with 8:57 to go in the first half after a layup by Dupree.
- With Samford leading, 36-23, the Bulldogs went on a 20-3 run to take a 56-26 lead with 3:34 left in the half after a three-pointer by Chambers.
- Samford led by as many as 33 points in the first half and the Bulldogs took a 66-36 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- Belhaven cut the lead to 25 points at 68-43, but Samford extended the lead to 38 points at 87-49 with 13:41 left in the game after a layup by Dye.
- Samford led by as many as 56 points in the second half.
- The Bulldogs finished with a 133-84 victory.
