Brown Sets Career Assists Record In WBB's 72-59 Loss To Furman

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
Samford senior point guard Charity Brown became the program's all-time leader in career assists as the Bulldog women's basketball team fell to Furman, 72-59 Thursday night at the Pete Hanna Center.
 
Brown now has 465 career assists, breaking the old record of 463, set by Aimee Cochran from 1997 to 2001. With the loss, Samford falls to 11-12 overall and 6-2 in Southern Conference play. Despite the loss, the Bulldogs remain in sole possession of first place in the SoCon standings. Furman improves to 15-8 overall and 5-3 in league games.

  • Brown dished out four assists to lift her over the previous career record.
  • Natalie Armstrong and Ta'Naisha Hill led the team in scoring with 10 points each.
  • Sarah Myers scored nine points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
  • Le'jzae Davidson led Furman with 15 points and seven rebounds.
 
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
  • Furman took an early 8-5 lead with 7:26 to go in the first quarter after a pair of free throws by Davidson.
  • Samford went on a 10-2 run to take a 15-10 lead with 3:22 left in the first quarter after a layup by Shauntai Battle.
  • Furman scored seven-straight points to take a 17-15 lead, but a late jumper by Armstrong made the score 17-17 at the end of the first period.
  • Furman opened up a 30-22 lead with 3:50 left in the second quarter after a layup by Grace Van Rij.
  • The Paladins took a 35-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.
  • Samford cut the lead to seven points at 39-32 with 7:22 left in the third quarter following a three-pointer by Paige Serup.
  • The Paladins extended to a 20-point lead at 57-37, and Furman led, 59-42 at the end of the third quarter.
  • In the fourth quarter, Samford cut the lead to 12 points at 66-54 with 4:21 left after a three-pointer by Raven Omar.
  • Samford, however, could get no closer as the Paladins came away with the 72-59 victory over the Bulldogs.
