TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Samford's Alex Lopez and Samantha Nanere both advanced into the singles main draw from the qualifying rounds at the ITA Southern Regionals, hosted by the University of Alabama Friday.
 
Nanere earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Yurie Taknishi of South Alabama. She then fell to Michelle Ncube of Troy in Friday's first main draw round. Lopez advanced to the second round of the main draw with a 6-4, 2-6, 7-5 win over Adela Wasserbauerov from UAB.

In doubles, the pair of Sofia Zaprianov and Alexis Lopez advanced to the Round of 32 with an 8-4 win over Alexia Romero and Ana Rodrigues of Louisiana Tech. The duo will take on Loudmilla Bencheikh and Ann Marie Hiser of Alabama in Saturday's Round of 32.  
 
Saturday's schedule includes the doubles rounds of 32 and 16, as well as the singles main draw first round.
 
The singles round of 16, and the quarterfinals for singles and doubles will take place Sunday, with the semifinals set for Monday and the finals scheduled for Tuesday.
