BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford University men's basketball team picked up its fourth straight win with an 83-58 victory over Mississippi College (2-4) on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at the Pete Hanna Center.
Jacob Tryon had his best game at home for the Bulldogs (6-1) with 16 points and six rebounds.
Jaden Campbell and
Wesley Cardet joined him in double digits with 12 and 11, respectively. Zach Jones led MC with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Samford jumped out to a 14-3 lead at the 15:22 media timeout. A pair of 3-pointers by Cooper Kaifes and a pair of layups by Wesley Cardet fueled the Bulldogs.
- The Bulldogs extended their lead to 15, 23-8, on back-to-back 3-pointers from Jacob Tryon with 12:55 remaining in the half.
- Mississippi College finally connected on its first 3-pointer of the half, as Miles Miller drained the jumper from the corner with 11:21 on the clock to cut the Samford lead to 25-11.
- A wing 3-pointer by Cardet pushed the Bulldogs' advantage to 19 with 6:04 to go in the half, as Samford led 32-13.
- MC's Tradavis Thompson scored seven of the Choctaws last nine points, as Samford maintained a 37-20 lead with 3:56 left in the first half.
- Samford closed the first half on a 6-0 run over the final 1:05, including a four-point play by Quinn Richey, to take a 45-27 lead into the locker room.
- Samford used a 9-0 run from 16:58 to 15:26 to take a 58-33 lead, its largest of the night. Jaron Rillie was 2-for-3 from 3-point range during the stretch with Tryon adding his third of the game.
- Miller's 13-foot jumper ended Samford's 11 straight points and put the Choctaws within 25, 60-35.
- Samford's defense forced a 2:02 second scoring drought for the Choctaws, as the Bulldogs led 63-37 at the 12:00 media timeout.
- MC reeled-off a 13-5 run from 13:38 to 7:49 to cut to get the margin to 19, 65-46. Judah Jordan had five of the 13 for MC.
- Kaifes ended the scoring drought for the Bulldogs with a corner 3-pointer out of the media timeout and stretch the lead back to 22, 68-46, with 7:07 to play.
- Both teams picked up the pace offensively over the next 3:26 with the Bulldogs leading 77-54 with 3:41 to play in the game. Campbell had five points and Angel Smith four during the stretch.
- The Bulldogs closed out the remaining minutes of the contest for an 83-58 victory.
STATS OF THE GAME:
- Samford shot 41 percent (31-of-76) from the floor for the game and 40 percent from 3-point range (14-of-35). Mississippi College connected on 40 percent (22-of-55) of its attempts including 3-of-14 from beyond the arc.
- The Bulldogs forced 23 turnovers leading directly to 30 Samford points.
- Tryon, who led the Bulldogs with 11 first half points and five rebounds, finished with 16 points and six rebounds. The 16 points were the most for the senior from Temecula, Calif., at the Pete Hanna Center.
- Campbell added 12 points while Cardet finished with 11 points and five rebounds. Kaifes and Richey finished with nine points apiece as well.
- Mississippi College placed three players in double figures led by Zach Jones with 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Tuesday's win was the sixth in November for Samford, tying the Bulldogs for the most victories among NCAA Division I programs in the state.
- Samford and Mississippi College were meeting for the 66th time. The Bulldogs own a 37-29 lead in the series standings after Tuesday's victory.

- The Bulldogs return to the Pete Hanna Center on Sunday, Dec. 5, as Samford hosts Belmont College. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
