SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford junior guard
Andrea Cournoyer was named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week when the league released its weekly academic award Wednesday afternoon.
Cournoyer turned in a pair of strong performances in Samford's two games last week. She had 16 points and five steals against Alabama A&M. She then had 27 points, six rebounds and five steals in leading the Bulldogs to a 77-68 win over cross-town rival UAB. Cournoyer averaged 21.5 points per game for the week, making 54.3 percent of her shots from the floor.
Academically, Cournoyer has a perfect 4.0 grade point average in communication sciences and disorders. She was named to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll for the 2020-21 academic year.
For the season, Cournoyer leads the SoCon in scoring, averaging 17.1 points per game. She also leads the SoCon in steals at 3.6 per game and she is tied for first in the league in free throw percentage, making 92.9 percent of her attempts.
Samford will play at Ole Miss Friday, Dec. 17 at 1 p.m. in Oxford, Miss. The game can be seen live on SECN+ at the following link:
