Samford To Continue Homestand Monday Versus Talladega

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Bulldogs (2-6) continue their four-game homestand on Monday, Dec. 6, as Samford hosts the Tornadoes (11-1) of Talladega College. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Pete Hanna Center. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Curt Bloom and Emily L. Swaim on the call. Samford and Talladega are meeting for the second time on the hardwood Monday. The Tornadoes defeated the Bulldogs, 50-49, on Nov. 14, 2013 in the lone previous meeting.

The Samford women's basketball team placed four Bulldogs (2-6) in double figures en route to a 75-66 victory over Murray State (6-2) on Saturday at the Pete Hanna Center. Shauntai Battle and Annie Ramil, who also had a career-high 16 rebounds, led the Bulldogs with 16 points each with Andrea Cournoyer adding 15 and Sanaa Redmond 10. Macey Turley led the Racers with 16 points. The Bulldogs led for all but 15 seconds in the contest and outrebounded the Racers 40-31.

Saturday's 75-66 victory over Murray State was also the 100th in Samford head coach Carley Kuhns' career. She is 100-60 in her six seasons as a head coach with back-to-back regular season Southern Conference title at Samford in her first two seasons in Birmingham.    

Talladega enters the weekend 11-1 after defeating Faulkner 81-76 on Saturday. Sydni Tears scored 17 points and grabbed 16 rebounds while Fu'Tra Banks had 19 points to pace the Tornadoes. Tierra Tullis (15) and Kendall Weary (13) also joined them in double figures.

Sydni Fears is leading the Tornadoes in scoring (17.3) and rebounds (8.8) per game. Kameron Shelley (11.8) and Fu'Tra Banks (11.0) are also scoring in double digits.

The Bulldogs are shooting 40.7 percent from the floor to lead the SoCon. Samford has made 177-of-435 attempts so far this season.

Junior guard Andrea Cournoyer enters the weekend ranked No. 1 in the SoCon in scoring at 17.1 points and steals (3.5) per game.  

Samford enters Monday's showdown with Talladega averaging 60.1 points per game to rank fourth in the SoCon. The Bulldogs are also sixth in scoring defense at 68.0 points allowed per contest.

Senior guard Shauntai Battle continues to improve coming back after an injury-shortened her 2020-21 campaign. The Mobile, Ala., native, is averaging 10.0 points per game to rank No. 11 in the SoCon.

The Bulldogs will host Alabama A&M University on Thursday, Dec. 9 at the Pete Hanna Center. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on  ESPN+.
