Box Score BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A balanced scoring effort by 12 different Bulldogs (3-6) powered the Samford University women's basketball team to an 88-70 victory over Talladega College (11-2) Monday, Dec. 6 at the Pete Hanna Center.

Mattie Hatcher (11) led Samford in scoring while
Annie Ramil finished with a game-high 10 rebounds. Sydni Tears paced Talladega with 21 points and seven rebounds.
The victory was the second in a row for the Bulldogs in the homestand with two games remaining this week against Alabama A&M Thursday and Alabama-Birmingham on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- A pair of layups by Sussy Ngulefac and a 15-foot jumper from Shauntai Battle put the Bulldogs up 6-0 at the 7:20 mark of the first quarter, forcing a Talladega timeout.
- Sydni Tears' jumper out of the timeout got the Tornadoes on the board with 6:51 to play in the first.
- Natalie Armstrong's jump hook in the lane ended a 2:49 scoring drought for the Bulldogs and extended the Samford lead to 8-4 with 4:27 to play in the period.
- Tears' third field goal of the period tied the game at 8-8 for Talladega with 3:43 on the clock.
- A 3-pointer by Kameron Shelley gave Talladega its first lead of the game, 16-14, with 1:20 to play in the first quarter. The 3-pointer capped an 8-3 run for the Tornadoes.
- Samford closed the quarter with a layup by Armstrong and a buzzer-beating floater by Ngulefac to take an 18-16 lead into the second quarter.
- The Bulldogs carried the run into the second quarter with back-to-back jumpers by Sanaa Redmond and Mallory Hampton, and a long 3-pointer by Shauntai Battle to push the lead to 25-18 with 8:30 to play in the half. Battle's three forced the second Talladega timeout of the half.
- Shelley's jumper cut the deficit it to five, 25-20, for the Tornadoes with 7:45 to go in the second.
- Kiersten Nelson's bucket and free throw extended Samford's run to seven and extended the lead to 11, 31-20, with 3:17 remaining in the half.
- With Talladega just one for its last 11 from the field, Samford continued to push the lead to 21, 44-23, at halftime.
- Talladega picked up the offensive pace in the third, scoring eight points in the first 3:23, but Samford matched the intensity as it grew the lead to 25, 56-31. Cournoyer and Hatcher had 3-pointers during the stretch for SU.
- Hatcher's second 3-pointer of the third gave the Bulldogs the 61-33 edge at the 3:44 media timeout.
- SU closed the third period on a 7-2 run to take a 33-point lead into the final period of play.
- Six straight from Ngulefac extended Samford to a 76-39 lead with 6:51 to play in the game.
- Talladega answered with a 6-0 run, making it 76-45 with 6:12 to play.
- Both teams used the last five minutes of play to get some quality minutes for their reserves.
- Talladega closed the game on a 17-5 run, but Samford cruised to the 88-70 victory.
STATS OF THE GAME:
- The Bulldogs outscored the Tornadoes 10-2 in the paint in the first quarter.
- Samford dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Tornadoes 26-7.
- The Bulldogs shot 44.7 percent (17-of-38) in the first half with the Tornadoes hitting on 37 percent (10-of-27). Samford outrebounded Talladega 29-12 with Annie Ramil grabbing eight first half boards.
- Hampton led the Bulldogs with 10 points at the break followed by Ngulefac and Armstrong with eight points apiece. Tears led Talladega and all scorers with 12 points at the half.
- Samford ended the game shooting 48 percent (31-of-65) in the win while Talladega connected on 40 percent (25-of-63). The Bulldogs bench scored a season-high 54 points while the team outrebounded the Tornadoes 47-29.
- Hampton, a freshman from Evensville, Tenn., recorded a new career-high with 18 points while Hatcher, a freshman from Little Rock, Ark., also recorded a career-best with 11 points.
- Shelley (13) and Ayasha Thomas (12) joined Tears in double figures for the Tornadoes.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- The Bulldogs are now 3-0 on the year when scoring 75 or more points in a game.
- Samford and Talladega were meeting for just the second time in the series on Monday. The Tornadoes defeated the Bulldogs 50-49 on Nov. 14, 2013, in the last meeting between the schools.
