Women’s Basketball To Host ETSU Saturday At Noon

GAME NOTES: SAMFORD VS. ETSU

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford women's basketball team will play its final home game of the 2020-21 season when the Bulldogs play host to the ETSU Bucs Saturday at 12 p.m. in the Pete Hanna Center..

Samford enters the game with a record of 12-8 overall and 9-2 in SoCon play. The Bulldogs split two games at Wofford last week. ETSU has a record of 3-11 overall and 1-6 in SoCon play. The Bucs last played on Feb. 7 in a 55-46 loss at Furman.
 
Samford and ETSU have met 14 previous times, with Samford holding an 8-6 advantage in the series. The teams met twice last season, with Samford winning both contests. The Bulldogs won the first game in Birmingham by a score of 68-34. Samford then won in Johnson City, Tenn., 76-60.

COURNOYER NAMED SOCON PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Samford junior guard Andrea Cournoyer was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week when the league released its weekly women's basketball awards Tuesday afternoon. Cournoyer had another strong week this week, averaging 24.5 points, 4.0 steals, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game as the Bulldogs split two games at Wofford. In Thursday night's game, she tallied 26 points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists. In Saturday's victory, she had 23 points, four assists, four steals and three rebounds. She shot 58.3 percent from the floor, making 21 of her 36 shot attempts for the week.
 
RAMIL MAKES IMMEDIATE IMPACT: Samford junior forward Annie Ramil, a transfer from Binghamton University, has made an immediate impact on the team this season. This season, Ramil has produced a team-high six double-doubles for the Bulldogs. She has had double-doubles against UT Martin, Birmingham-Southern, Mercer, Chattanooga, Furman and UNCG. She is averaging 11.6 points and a team-high 8.6 rebounds per game.
 
ARMSTRONG ACHIEVES SAMFORD FIRST: Samford senior center Natalie Armstrong recently reached a never-before seen achievement for Samford women's basketball. She became only the only player in program history to produce at least 1,000 career points, 500 career rebounds and 100 career blocks.
 
SAMFORD PLAYERS LEADING THE LEAGUE: Samford players currently lead the Southern Conference in several statistical categories. Samford players lead the SoCon in scoring (Andrea Cournoyer), assists (Raven Omar), free throw percentage (Cournoyer), steals (Cournoyer), 3-point percentage (Katie Allen), 3-pointers made per game (Cournoyer) and blocked shots (Natalie Armstrong).
 
AMONG SOCON LEADERS: Entering this game, Samford, as a team, leads the Southern Conference in scoring (69.3 ppg.), field goal percentage (.443), three-point field goal percentage (.356) and three-pointers made per game (7.2).
 
SAMFORD IN SOCON PLAY: Since joining the Southern Conference in 2008, Samford has a record of 129-84 in league games. Against the current members of the SoCon, Samford has an all-time record of 113-81. Samford's all-time record against each current SoCon team is: Chattanooga (9-26), ETSU (8-6), Furman (17-13), Mercer (8-19), UNCG (21-7), Western Carolina (25-4) and Wofford (25-6).
 
SAMFORD AT HOME: In its 23-plus seasons of women's basketball, Samford has an all-time record of 189-118 at home. In 13-plus seasons in the Pete Hanna Center, the Bulldogs are 128-47 in their current home. In 10 seasons in Seibert Hall, Samford had a record of 61-71 in that facility. Last season, Samford posted a record of 6-5 in home games. This season, the Bulldogs have 10 home games on their schedule, and the team is currently 8-1 in those contests.
 
SAMFORD AGAINST TENNESSEE TEAMS: Samford has an all-time record of 50-70 against teams from the state of Tennessee, including a 9-26 mark against Chattanooga. Samford has played the following Tennessee teams: Austin Peay (7-3), Belmont (0-8), Chattanooga (9-26), ETSU (8-6), Lipscomb (3-0), Martin Methodist (1-0), Memphis (2-2), UT Martin (5-12), Tennessee State (9-2), Tennessee Tech (6-8) and Vanderbilt (0-3).
