BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team will play host to the Alabama State Hornets Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
Samford enters the game with a record of 3-0. The Bulldogs swept UT Martin by scores of 5-3, 5-4 and 3-1 over the weekend. Alabama State has a record of 0-3, as the Hornets dropped games to Jacksonville State (5-3), Tennessee Tech (5-3) and Southern Illinois (13-1) last weekend.

- First baseman Sonny DiChiara led Samford to a season-opening three-game sweep of UT Martin over the weekend. DiChiara homered twice, once in game two and once in game three to put Samford in the lead for good in the sixth inning. For the week, he batted .333 with two home runs and two RBI.
- Samford senior reliever Hamp Skinner tossed 5.0 innings, allowing just one hit to earn the win in Sunday's 3-1 victory over UT Martin. He recorded eight strikeouts while not allowing a walk in the victory.

- Samford head coach Casey Dunn, already the winningest coach in Samford history, recently became the first Samford coach in any sport to win 500 games with Saturday's win over UT Martin. Dunn now has a record of 501-398, all at Samford. Dunn has won four conference titles, and has posted 12 30-win seasons during his 16 seasons at Samford.
- Following Tuesday's home game, Samford will play a three-game series next weekend at top-10-ranked Florida, taking on the Gators Friday at 5:30 p.m. (CT), Saturday at 3 p.m. (CT) and Sunday at 12 p.m. (CT).
