Women’s Basketball Travels To Mercer With SoCon Title On The Line

GAME NOTES -- SAMFORD AT MERCER

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The Samford women's basketball team will travel to Macon, Ga., to take on the Mercer Bears in a game for the Southern Conference regular-season title Thursday at 6 p.m. (CT).

Samford enters the game with a record of 13-8 overall and 10-2 in SoCon play after a 77-58 win over ETSU last Saturday. Mercer has a mark of 15-5 overall and 9-2 in league play after an 83-74 double-overtime win over Wofford last Sunday.
 
Samford and Mercer have met 27 previous times, with Mercer holding a 19-8 advantage in the series. The teams met earlier this season, with Samford earning a 78-69 win in the Pete Hanna Center in the SoCon opener for both teams. In addition to their time together in the SoCon, the programs were co-members of the Atlantic Sun Conference from 1997 until Samford left for the Ohio Valley Conference in 2003.

COURNOYER PROVIDING A SPARK: Samford junior guard Andrea Cournoyer has provided a spark for the team this season. The Louisiana-Lafayette transfer currently leads the Southern Conference in scoring (18.4 ppg.), free throw percentage (.882), steals per game (2.9) and three-pointers made per game (2.2). She has scored in double figures in 15 of the 18 games she has played in, including a career-high 34 points against Furman.
 
RAMIL MAKES IMMEDIATE IMPACT: Samford junior forward Annie Ramil, a transfer from Binghamton University, has made an immediate impact on the team this season. This season, Ramil has produced a team-high six double-doubles for the Bulldogs. She has had double-doubles against UT Martin, Birmingham-Southern, Mercer, Chattanooga, Furman and UNCG. She is averaging 11.5 points and a team-high 8.5 rebounds per game.
 
ARMSTRONG ACHIEVES SAMFORD FIRST: Samford senior center Natalie Armstrong recently reached a never-before seen achievement for Samford women's basketball. She became only the only player in program history to produce at least 1,000 career points, 500 career rebounds and 100 career blocks.
 
SAMFORD PLAYERS LEADING THE LEAGUE: Samford players currently lead the Southern Conference in several statistical categories. Samford players lead the SoCon in scoring (Andrea Cournoyer), assists (Raven Omar), free throw percentage (Cournoyer), steals (Cournoyer), 3-point percentage (Katie Allen), 3-pointers made per game (Cournoyer) and blocked shots (Natalie Armstrong).
 
AMONG SOCON LEADERS: Entering this game, Samford, as a team, leads the Southern Conference in scoring (69.7 ppg.), field goal percentage (.446), three-point field goal percentage (.357) and three-pointers made per game (7.0).
 
SAMFORD IN SOCON PLAY: Since joining the Southern Conference in 2008, Samford has a record of 130-84 in league games. Against the current members of the SoCon, Samford has an all-time record of 114-81. Samford's all-time record against each current SoCon team is: Chattanooga (9-26), ETSU (9-6), Furman (17-13), Mercer (8-19), UNCG (21-7), Western Carolina (25-4) and Wofford (25-6).
 
SAMFORD AWAY FROM HOME: This season, Samford has 12 games
on its schedule set to be played away from the Pete Hanna Center, and the Bulldogs are currently 4-7 in those contests. Last season, Samford was 12-9 away from the friendly confines of the Pete Hanna Center, including an 8-9 mark in true road games and 4-0 in neutral-site contests.
 
SAMFORD AGAINST GEORGIA TEAMS: Samford has an all-time
record of 23-39 against teams from the state of Georgia, including an 8-19 record against Mercer. Samford has played the following Georgia teams: Berry College (1-0), Columbus State (0-1), Georgia (1-0), Georgia Southern (9-3), Georgia State (2-11), Georgia Tech (0-4), Kennesaw State (0-1), Mercer (8-19), Morris Brown (1-0) and Shorter (1-0).
