Volleyball Takes Five-Set Match From Furman

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In a back-and-forth match, the Samford volleyball team earned a 3-2 (23-25, 25-18, 25-12, 19-25, 15-9) win over Furman Monday evening in the Pete Hanna Center.
 
The win was the 10th-straight victory for Samford, and the Bulldogs improve to 11-1 on the season. Furman falls to 4-8 with the loss.

  • Lauren Deaton led Samford with 20 kills and 10 digs.
  • Kenya McQuirter tallied 14 kills for the Bulldogs.
  • Corinne Meglic led the team in both assists (47) and digs (20).
  • Furman was led by Courtney Hoffman with 16 kills.
 
KEY MOMENTS
  • Samford jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the first set.
  • Furman fought back to close to within one point at 15-14.
  • Samford pushed its lead back to 21-16, but Furman scored the next seven points to take a 23-21 lead.
  • The Bulldogs scored the next two points the tie the score at 23-23, but Furman scored two-straight to take the set, 25-23.
  • Samford took an early 7-5 lead in the second set.
  • The Bulldogs extended their lead to 22-16.
  • Samford took the second set by a score of 25-18.
  • The Bulldogs took an early 11-2 lead in the third set.
  • Samford extended its lead to 16-4.
  • Samford held a 21-9 lead, and the Bulldogs won the third set, 25-12.
