GAME NOTES--SAMFORD AT UNCG

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team will open Southern Conference play at UNCG this weekend. The schedule has been altered due to inclement weather expected in the Greensboro area. The teams are now scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday at 12 p.m. (CT), and a single game Sunday at 12 p.m. (CT).
                Samford enters the series with a record of 7-10 after a 10-2 loss at No. 2 Mississippi State Tuesday night. UNCG is currently 11-5 after a 7-2 win over No. 13 Virginia Tech Tuesday evening.

• Samford and UNCG have played 35 previous times, with Samford owning a 22-13 advantage in the series.  
• The squads did not play in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The teams last faced off in 2019, with Samford sweeping a three-game series at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

• Towns King has gotten his season off to a hot start. He is currently leading the team with a .333 batting average. Over the last 10 games, he has posted a .360 average with two doubles and four RBI.
• Entering this weekend, Ryan Crockett has reached base in a team season-high 11 straight games. He has at least one hit in nine of those 11 games, while drawing a walk in the other two. His best game came in game one of the Toledo series. In that win, he went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
• Samford's scheduled pitching rotation is Samuel Strickland (Game 1), Jesse McCord (Game 2) and Zach Hester (Game 3).

 
NEWS & NOTES

• Samford head coach Casey Dunn, already the winningest coach in Samford history, enters the week with 505 career wins, making him the first Samford coach in any sport to win 500 games. Dunn has won four conference titles, and has posted 12 30-win seasons during his 16-plus seasons at Samford.
• Entering this weekend, Samford junior pitcher Samuel Strickland ranks third in school history in wins. Strickland currently has 20 wins. The current record holder is Josh Martin with 24 career victories.
