Women’s Basketball Set For 2021 WNIT

SAMFORD-WNIT GAME NOTES

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
 – The Samford women's basketball team will take on the Ole Miss Rebels in the first round of the WNIT Friday at 5 p.m. in the Memphis Regional, held at My Town Movers Fieldhouse in Collierville, Tenn.
 
Samford has posted a record of 14-9 overall and 11-2 in Southern Conference play this season. The Bulldogs won the SoCon regular-season tile, and are coming off a 68-61 loss to ETSU in the quarterfinals of the SoCon Tournament.
 
Ole Miss has a mark of 11-11 overall and 4-10 in SEC play. The Rebels are coming off a 77-72 loss to Tennessee in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament.
 
Samford and Ole Miss have met just once in women's basketball and that took place in the 2010 WNIT in the Pete Hanna Center. Samford pulled out a thrilling, last-second 66-65 win over the Rebels in that only previous meeting. The teams were scheduled to meet the following season in a tournament at St. Peter's, but the game had to be canceled due to a major snowstorm in New Jersey.  
 
The winner of the Samford-Ole Miss game will advance to take on the winner of the Illinois State-Tulane game Saturday at 8 p.m. The losers of the two games will meet Saturday at 2 p.m. The regional championship game is set for Monday, Mar. 22 at 7 p.m. The consolation final will be played Monday at 4 p.m.

COURNOYER NAMED SOCON PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Samford junior guard Andrea Cournoyer earned Southern Conference Player of the Year honors at the end of the regular season. Cournoyer leads the SoCon, averaging a school-record 18.7 points per game. She also leads the league in steals per game, averaging 3.0 per contest. Her free throw percentage of .853 ranks second in the league.
 
RAMIL MAKES IMMEDIATE IMPACT: Samford junior forward Annie Ramil, a transfer from Binghamton University, has made an immediate impact on the team this season. This season, Ramil has produced a team-high six double-doubles for the Bulldogs. She has had double-doubles against UT Martin, Birmingham-Southern, Mercer, Chattanooga, Furman and UNCG. She is averaging 11.3 points and a team-high 8.3 rebounds per game.
 
ARMSTRONG ACHIEVES SAMFORD FIRST: Samford senior center Natalie Armstrong recently reached a never-before seen achievement for Samford women's basketball. She became only the only player in program history to produce at least 1,000 career points, 500 career rebounds and 100 career blocks. Entering Friday night's game, she has 1,146 career points, 556 rebounds and 121 blocked shots.
 
AMONG SOCON LEADERS: Samford players currently lead the Southern Conference in several statistical categories. Samford players lead the SoCon in scoring (Andrea Cournoyer), assists (Raven Omar), steals (Cournoyer), 3-point percentage (Katie Allen) and blocked shots (Natalie Armstrong).
                Samford, as a team, leads the Southern Conference in scoring (69.5 ppg.), field goal percentage (.445), three-point field goal percentage (.352) and three-pointers made per game (6.9).
 
SAMFORD VERSUS SEC OPPONENTS: Samford has an all-time record of 6-26 against the current members of the Southeastern Conference, including a 1-0 mark against Ole Miss. So far this season, Samford has faced off against Alabama, Auburn and Kentucky. All-time, the Bulldogs have faced the following SEC foes: Alabama (2-8), Arkansas (0-1), Auburn (0-4), Florida (0-2), Georgia (1-0), Kentucky (0-4), LSU (1-1), Mississippi State  (0-2), Missouri (1-0), Ole Miss (1-0), South Carolina (0-1) and Vanderbilt (0-3).
 
SAMFORD AWAY FROM HOME: This season, Samford played 13 games
away from the Pete Hanna Center, and the Bulldogs went 5-8 in those contests. Friday's game will mark just the second neutral-site game, and the Bulldogs are 0-1 in those contests. Last season, Samford was 12-9 away from the friendly confines of the Pete Hanna Center, including an 8-9 mark in true road games and 4-0 in neutral-site contests.
 
SAMFORD AGAINST MISSISSIPPI TEAMS: Samford has an all-time
record of 4-8 against teams from the state of Mississippi, including a 1-0 record against Ole Miss. Samford has played the following Mississippi teams: Alcorn State (1-1), Mississippi State (0-2), Mississippi Valley State (1-0), Ole Miss (1-0) and Southern Mississippi (2-5).
 
SAMFORD IN THE POSTSEASON: Samford is 22-20 all-time in the postseason. SU posted a 2-3 record in the Atlantic Sun Tournament, and the team was 3-4 in the OVC Tournament. Samford is 16-10 in SoCon Tournament games. Samford has a record of 1-1 in the WNIT and 0-2 in the NCAA Tournament.
