COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. – The Samford women's basketball team dropped a 64-45 decision to the Ole Miss Rebels in the first round of the WNIT Friday evening at My Town Movers Fieldhouse.
With the loss, Samford falls to 14-10. The Bulldogs move into the consolation bracket of the WNIT. Ole Miss improves to 12-11, and the Rebels advance to the second round of the tournament.

- Andrea Cournoyer led Samford with 17 points and eight rebounds.
- Natalie Armstrong had eight points for the Bulldogs.
- Shakira Austin led Ole Miss with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the game tied at 7-7, Ole Miss went on a 9-0 run to take a 16-7 lead with 2:32 left in the first quarter after a layup by Caitlin McGee.
- A late jumper by Annie Ramil cut the Rebels' lead to 16-9 at the end of the first quarter.
- Samford cut the Ole Miss lead to five at 16-11 on a layup by Armstrong with 9:43 to go in the second quarter.
- Ole Miss, however, answered with a 6-0 run to push its lead to 22-11 with 7:23 left in the period after a pair of free throws by Donnetta Johnson.
- The Rebels led by as many as 21 points in the second quarter and they took a 38-17 lead into the locker room at halftime.
- Ole Miss pushed its lead to 25 points at 44-19 with 7:01 to go in the third quarter following a layup by Mimi Reid.
- Ole Miss held a 51-27 lead at the end of the third quarter.
- Samford could get no closer than 19 points in the fourth quarter, and Ole Miss came away with the 64-45 win.

- Samford will play the loser of the Tulane-Illinois State game in the consolation bracket Saturday at 2 p.m.
