BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford softball team has a complete home week ahead with a doubleheader against Alabama State on Tuesday, Mar. 23 starting at 2 p.m. This will be followed by a weekend series against Mercer University with a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 27 starting at 1 p.m. and a single game on Sunday, Mar. 28 at 1 p.m.
 
The Bulldogs are entering this week with a current overall record of 10-14, while Alabama State has only seen five wins this season for a record of 5-17. Mercer University has played in a total of 24 games to place the Bears at 12-12 on their season.

MERCER SERIES HISTORY:

• Samford and Mercer have taken the field together 32 times.

BULLDOGS TO WATCH:

• Amanda Briskin has a team-high .355 batting average on the season. Briskin has started and played in 23 games, recording 11 runs on 22 hits after a total of 62 at bats.
• Timberlyn Shurbutt leads the Bulldogs in the RBI category with a total of 14 this season. Shurbutt has made the most out her time at the plate with 12 runs on 23 hits, while registering six doubles and four home runs.
• Abby Swaney is coming off an impressive performance in the circle this past Sunday where she earned her fifth win of the season. Swaney now holds an overall record of 5-4 and has pitched 59.1 innings for the Bulldogs for a total of 39 strikeouts.

 
OPPONENT QUICK LOOKS:

• Alabama State has collected its wins against Alabama A&M, Nicholls State, Tuskegee, North Dakota, and Texas Southern. The Hornets started off their season with a game against fellow conference school, Western Carolina, where they lost 7-0 to the Catamounts.
• Jasmine Dodd is a key offensive player for Alabama State with eight runs on 15 hits, three doubles, and seven RBIs. In the circle, Skyler Sullivan has seen the only wins for the Hornets with an individual record of 5-6. Sullivan has made 16 appearances and 12 starts for a total of 82.2 innings pitched and 38 strikeouts.
• Mercer has seen 12 wins and 12 losses so far this season with its last game resulting in a 1-0 loss against Middle Tennessee State. The Bears are led offensively by Micayla Rood who has driven in six runs for Mercer this season, while collecting 15 runs on 23 hits and one double.
• Madi Joice has captured a 2.91 earned run average in the circle for the Bears. She has pitched a total of 55.1 innings for a win-loss record of 4-3. Joice has retired 27 batters at the plate in her 14 appearances this season.
