BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford baseball team will go on the road for five games this week, beginning with a game at Troy Tuesday night at 6 p.m. The team will then play at Alabama State Wednesday at 6 p.m. The week concludes with a three-game series at Texas A&M. The teams are set to play Friday at 6:30 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 12 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY

• Under head coach Casey Dunn, Samford has a record of 12-18 against Troy. The teams met just once last season, with Troy earning a 5-3 win at a tournament in Pensacola, Fla.
• The Bulldogs have a record of 10-3 against Alabama State under Dunn. The teams met earlier this season, with ASU earning an 11-9 win on Feb. 23 at Joe Lee Griffin Field.
• This will mark the first time Samford and Texas A&M have played in baseball.

• Sonny DiChiara currently leads the Southern Conference in home runs. He has hit five homers so far this season.
• Towns King is off to a hot start, leading the team with a .450 batting average.
• Blake Bortak is scheduled to start on the mound for Samford. He has a 2.84 ERA in five appearances.

 
NEWS & NOTES

• Samford head coach Casey Dunn, already the winningest coach in Samford history, enters the week with 504 career wins, making him the first Samford coach in any sport to win 500 games. Dunn has won four conference titles, and has posted 12 30-win seasons during his 16-plus seasons at Samford.
• Entering this week, Samford junior pitcher Samuel Strickland ranks third in school history in wins. Strickland currently has 20 wins. The current record holder is Josh Martin with 24 career victories.
