BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In its final weekend series of the regular season, the Samford softball team will take to the road to compete against Chattanooga in a doubleheader on Saturday, May 8 starting at 12 p.m. and a single game on Sunday, May 9 at 1 p.m. at Frost Field.
After a thrilling 2-1 series victory over ETSU this past weekend, the Bulldogs now hold an overall record of 17-25, 6-9 (SoCon) on their season. Chattanooga is coming off a 1-1 series split against Furman after game one was canceled. The Mocs hold a current record of 11-22 while going 6-7 in SoCon play.

BULLDOGS TO WATCH:
- Whitney Hinton has been a force behind the Samford offense, driving in a team-high 23 runs this season, while also becoming the new career recorder holder in RBIs for the Samford Softball Program in early April. The senior has played in all games but one for the Bulldogs, collecting 25 runs on 39 hits, six doubles, and eight home runs.
- Fellow senior Timberlyn Shurbutt has also had a standout season for Samford at the plate with 21 runs on 41 hits, a team-high 11 doubles, one triple, and six home runs. Defensively, the third baseman has registered 47 putouts and 117 assists while taking part in nine double plays.
- Emily Barnett continues to work in the circle with a 2.97 batting average after allowing 42 earned runs in a total of 99.0 inning pitched. The senior has made 26 appearances and 16 starts this season for an overall record of 8-8 to go along with four saves.
CHATTANOOGA QUICK LOOKS:
- Fifth-year senior Hayleigh Weissenbach has started in all 33 games for Chattanooga this season, recording 28 hits in 88 at bats for a team-high .318 batting average. Weissenbach is a top offensive threat for the Mocs with 17 runs, five doubles, two triples, two home runs, and 18 RBIs.
- Emily Coltharp is another standout player at the plate for Chattanooga with 18 runs on 31 hits during her 98 at bats this season for an overall .316 batting average. The junior has accumulated three doubles and four RBIs as well.
- In the circle, junior Hannah Wood leads the Mocs with a 3.49 ERA after allowing 40 earned runs in 80.1 innings pitched this season. The right-handed pitcher has received five wins, eight losses, and one save in her 24 appearances.
