Mandy Johnson
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mandy Johnson, who has served as Samford's head softball coach since 2012, announced her resignation from the position on Monday, June 14. Her resignation is effective Friday, June 25.

Johnson leaves Samford as the program's all-time winningest coach, leading her teams to 237 wins in her time with the program. She has coached 27 All-SoCon players, 15 All-SoCon Tournament selections, 11 All-Freshman honorees, two SoCon Players of the Year, one SoCon Pitcher of the Year, one SoCon Freshman of the Year and one SoCon Tournament Most Outstanding Player.

In addition to the SoCon honors her players have garnered, Johnson has coached all four NFCA All-Region players in the program's history, including first-teamer Megan Dowdy, and third-team honorees Mollie Hanson, Callie Brister and Shelby Maze.

Johnson recruited and coached the players with four of the top six career batting averages in program history, including the top two in Maze (.390) and Dowdy (.363). She also coached the school career leaders in at-bats, runs scored, hits, doubles, triples, home runs, RBI and wins.

She also delivered the top three seasons in program history, winning 33 games in 2015, 38 in 2014 and 40 in 2016. Her 2016 squad also produced the team's first Southern Conference regular-season and tournament titles, and NCAA Tournament bid. She was named the Southern Conference Coach of the Year following the 2016 campaign.

Johnson came to Samford as an assistant coach in 2011, before being promoted to the head coaching position the following year.

Prior to her time with the Bulldogs, Johnson spent the previous two seasons as an assistant coach at Birmingham-Southern. At BSC, she helped lead the Panthers to a combined record of 57-14 in her two seasons on the coaching staff. In 2009, BSC posted an impressive record of 32-5, breaking 13 team records, including the record for number of wins.

A national search for Johnson's replacement will begin immediately.
